I worked with Dr Lindsey Watson and Clare Lyons at the Dawn Practice over a number of weeks for a combined adult assessment for autism and ADHD. The appointments were spread across the Wellington Street and the Bath Street locations. The whole process was genuinely amazing, the staff are so professional and so understanding throughout. The standards are extremely high, and all the care was carried out face to face which makes a big difference.

OUR MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

Glasgow Mental Health Services at The Dawn Practice Wellington Street

Our mental health team has many years of experience working in neurodiversity and mental health support. Our therapies include:

Psychological (talking) therapies

Talking therapy is a chance for you to find a way forward if you are facing challenges with stress, anxiety, depression, or past traumatic experiences. There are many different types of psychological talking therapies that can be tailored to individuals, depending on the nature of the presenting mental health challenges.

Some examples of psychological therapies offered at The Dawn Practice include cognitive behavioural therapy, compassion-focused therapy (CFT), and eye movement rapid desensitisation therapy (EMDR).

Psychiatry and specialist nurse prescribing

Our psychiatry and specialist nurse prescribing provides expert medication management for mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety, as well as medication support for neurodivergent profiles like ADHD.

Our consultant psychiatrists and prescribing nurses work with you to find the right treatment approach, whether that involves starting new medication, adjusting existing prescriptions, or exploring alternative treatments.

We take time to discuss potential benefits and side effects, and monitor your progress with medication reviews.

Neurodevelopmental assessments

Our neurodevelopmental assessments are for anyone who wishes to explore potential neurodivergent traits and better understand the way their brain works.

This includes assessment for ADHD, autism, dyspraxia, and other learning disabilities or differences. We also offer combined neurodevelopmental assessments for those presenting with multiple neurodivergent characteristics.

An initial screening is a good place to start if you would like to talk through your experiences with an expert neurodevelopmental practitioner before considering future intervention and support.

Speech and language therapy (SLT)

Our speech and language therapists support children, adolescents, and adults with communication, language development, and social interaction skills. This can be everything from support with speech clarity to understanding social cues. We aim to provide accessible exercises that are easy to incorporate into daily living, always keeping the family at the centre.

Occupational therapy (OT)

Our occupational therapists help individuals develop practical skills for daily living, whether that’s managing self-care routines, improving coordination and motor skills, or adapting your working environment to better suit the way you function. We support people with a wide range of needs, including those related to neurodivergence and sensory processing.

    Frequently Asked
    Questions

Are The Dawn Practice clinics disability accessible?

    Down Chevron Icon

Our Newton Mearns clinic is wheelchair accessible, and we can also provide at-home occupational therapy sessions if appropriate. Please call us or contact us on our website for accessibility information about our other clinics.

Do I need a GP referral to access psychological services?

    Down Chevron Icon

Though we do often work alongside NHS services, no GP referral is required for our psychological services. You can self-refer or be referred by family members, schools, or other professionals.

What is the difference between counselling and psychological therapies?

    Down Chevron Icon

Psychologists registered with the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) are highly trained mental healthcare professionals. Unlike counsellors, who focus mainly on talking therapy and supportive listening, HCPC-registered psychologists complete doctoral-level training and are legally regulated to provide specialist assessments, diagnoses, and evidence-based treatments.

This means they can work with complex difficulties across the lifespan, offering a deeper level of expertise and accountability to ensure the highest standards of care.
