Bio

 
Professor Chouliara is an Associate Counselling and Health Psychologist at The Dawn Practice, and a registered Psychotherapist. She is also a BPS-registered Gender and Diversity Specialist (HCPC Registered: PYL04979).

 

She works with adults, young people, and children, offering assessment and therapy for a range of difficulties including depression, anxiety, and trauma. Her specialist expertise lies in supporting people who have experienced complex trauma such as childhood abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse. She also works with individuals experiencing appearance-related distress, identity issues, and gender identity challenges, including transgender care. Professor Chouliara carries out gender incongruence assessments, assessments for HRT as gender affirming treatment and surgeries as gender affirming care. She has experience of paediatric diabetes and diabetes at 8C level, bariatrics, and plastic/cosmetic psychology.

 

Her therapeutic style is grounded in person-centred and positive psychology approaches, complemented by systemic and compassion-focused techniques, as well as creative methods including psychodrama and projection techniques. In addition to her clinical work, she provides professional training and clinical supervision.

 

Before moving into private practice, Dr. Chouliara held academic and leadership roles as a Professor in Mental Health. She led specialist NHS psychology services in plastic surgery and post-COVID care and was named in the Top 100 of Nation’s Lifesavers (2019) for her clinical expertise in childhood sexual abuse.
