Bio

 
Dr. Joy Nisbet is an Associate Clinical Psychologist at The Dawn Practice. She is HCPC registered and a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the BPS (155196). Joy has over 20 years of post-qualification experience working across the NHS, private, and third sectors, including holding Consultant Clinical Psychologist roles.

 

She provides assessment and therapy for a wide range of psychological difficulties including depression, anxiety, phobias, OCD, trauma, and adjustment to long-term health conditions. Joy has specialist expertise in child and adolescent psychology, supporting young people and families with complex presentations such as attachment difficulties, trauma, and behavioural challenges. She is also experienced in autism assessments for children, adolescents, and adults.

 

Her therapeutic style is collaborative and relational, grounded in empathy and trust, ensuring clients feel safe to explore difficulties and work towards agreed solutions. She draws on evidence-based models such as CBT (including trauma-focused CBT), systemic approaches, and integrative therapies informed by narrative, attachment, and ACT.

 

Alongside her clinical practice, Joy works part-time with NHS Education for Scotland (NES) as Head of Programme for Parenting and Infant Mental Health & Trauma (Children & Young People with Care Experience). Since 2015, she has contributed to national training and service development in CAMHS, supervision, trauma transformation, and postgraduate psychological training programmes.
