I honestly don’t have the words for how much the Dawn Practice has helped my daughter. We have been working with Mireille Wallace who is the most amazing, compassionate, knowledgeable psychologist. She is an angel! Highly recommended.

Psychological (talking) therapies

There are many different types of psychological talking therapies that can be adapted to individuals, depending on the nature of the psychological intervention required. These are typically an opportunity for you to process daily life difficulties or traumatic events from your past.

Some examples of psychological therapies offered at The Dawn Practice include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), compassion-focused therapy (CFT), and eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR).

Neurodevelopmental assessments

Our neurodiversity assessments are for anyone who wishes to explore potential neurodivergent traits and better understand the way their brain works.

This includes assessment for ADHD, autism, dyspraxia, and other learning disabilities or differences. We also offer combined neurodevelopmental assessments for those presenting with multiple neurodivergent characteristics.

An initial screening is a good place to start if you are considering gaining greater clarity on your thoughts, behaviours, and experiences.

    Questions

What services does The Dawn Practice Ayr offer?

    Down Chevron Icon

Our mental health clinic in Ayr primarily provides psychological talking therapies and neurodevelopmental assessments. However, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and specialist prescribing are available at other clinic locations.

Are The Dawn Practice clinics disability accessible?

    Down Chevron Icon

Our Newton Mearns clinic is wheelchair accessible, and we can also provide at-home occupational therapy sessions if appropriate. Please call us or contact us on our website for accessibility information about our other clinics.

Do I need a GP referral to access psychological services?

    Down Chevron Icon

Though we do often work alongside NHS services, no GP referral is required for our psychological services. You can self-refer or be referred by family members, schools, or other professionals.

What is the difference between counselling and psychological therapies?

    Down Chevron Icon

Psychologists registered with the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) are highly trained mental healthcare professionals. Unlike counsellors, who focus mainly on talking therapy and supportive listening, HCPC-registered psychologists complete doctoral-level training and are legally regulated to provide specialist assessments, diagnoses, and evidence-based treatments.

This means they can work with complex difficulties across the lifespan, offering a deeper level of expertise and accountability to ensure the highest standards of care.
